ITV to launch audio descriptive ads

ITV Are launching their first ever audio descriptive TV commercial and will debut on ITV Be in March.

Commercials that provide the service that strives to describe body language, expression and movement have been a prominent feature across Sky and Channel 4 in recent years.

Those broadcasters have been obliged to add the AD service to 20 per cent of their programmes and adverts.

The debut AD commercial will be aired during a Beagle Street advert that was created by Space City Productions, the London based company behind the original creative campaigns of Moonpig, GoCompare and Money Supermarket.

Having won more commissions than any other company since 2001, the eponymous production company has provided the creative to support ITV’s debut foray into audio descriptive services.

ITV has ensured more consumers can be engaged by TV commercials thanks to its foray into AD.

It is not yet known the identity of the show that will feature the AD commercial, although it will be initially rolled out during a late-night broadcast slot.

More than 70 TV channels utilise AD- including ITV- who introduced the service within some of its shows on ITV Be last September (2016).

However this will represent the first broadcast where the channel has enhanced the viewing experiences of those who are visually impaired, for TV advertising.

Space City recently produced a successful TV commercial for sight charity, Orbis, through the creative agency, Audience.
